Portsmouth Area V.C.C. Field Gun Display is now well established and today’s Cadets range from 9 - 16 years. Since its beginning the organisation has expanded to include HMS Dolphin, Dryad, Collingwood, Sultan and a Royal Marines unit as well as the units in Devonport. The Cadets meet twice weekly for a wide range of sporting activities. The VCC Gun Competition started in 1920’s and the display simulates the relief of the town of Ladysmith in South Africa during the Boer War where guns were brought ashore over arduous terrain for many miles to defeat the Boers
